Photography for me is one of the most difficult medium of expression.
Put it this way, your image is viewed by a person who has nothing but the sense of sight. His sense of smell, hearing, touch and emotions are all taken away from him. When a viewer looks at an image, he is left with only but his eyes.
As a photographer, it is our task to let him feel all his other senses through his eyes. Not only do we stimulate their visual sense, we let them feel, smell, hear and many more.
Do it right and we make the eyes happy. Do it better and we awaken the senses; the viewer smells, tastes, feels pain, is enlightened.
Do it perfectly and we can even bring the viewer to a world of euphoria or to a world of pain and sadness. The possibilities are endless, a photograph can take you back through time, it can also bring you to the future. It is as if the photographer’s only access of communicating with his/her viewer is through the eyes, and yet a real photographer needs only this. Through the eyes, everything is awaken, everything is brought back to life..
P.S. These are true for photographers, not hobbyists… Amen
